The death has occurred of The O’Donnell of Tirconnell, An tAthair Aodh Ua Domhnaill, (Fr Hugh O’Donnell O.F.M.) aged 83 years.

Fr O’Donnell, as The O’Donnell, was a recognised member of the Standing Council of Irish Chiefs and Chieftains.

Following his ordination as a Roman Catholic priest in 1965, Fr. O’Donnell went to Rhodesia (later Zimbabwe) as a missionary and remained there for 42 years before returning  to Ireland in 2008, where he continued to work in St. Fergal’s parish in Bray and later, as chaplain to the De La Salle Brothers at Castletown, County Laois.
